Thanks for posting this! I find my biggest challenge is really focusing on completing one task at a time. I get distracted by so many things that need to get done that I start doing other little tasks and nothing gets finished. Then I get overwhelmed by how much is left, and how much I didn’t accomplish.

  • TracyKPierce

Thanks for sharing, Amethyst. One thing you can try that I’ve found really helpful to keep people who are easily distracted focused is using a timer. Once you’ve decided what your priority area is, set the timer to go off every 10-15 minutes – that’s your queue to check in and see if you’re still focused on what your priority is. if you’ve gotten distracted, it’s time to come back to the priority, if you’re on task, give yourself a high 5!

  • Thanks for the opportunity! My biggest challenge is getting my daughters’ possessions out of the house! Once that is done, I’ll have a better handle on what is clutter that needs to go!

  • TracyKPierce

Trece, are your daughters adults who don’t live with you anymore?

  • Yes. The biggest bunch is DD26’s stuff. She moved in with a guy who has a one bedroom apartment. She knows her stuff will need to go, before we move at the end of April, but she’s paralyzed by the sheer volume of stuff.

  • TracyKPierce

I’m glad to hear there’s a deadline on her retrieving her stuff, that can be a real key. If she lives in the same town/near to you, one thing you might consider is taking it to her, one box at a time (this is what my mom did to me!) – depending on how much there is, maybe one or two boxes a month might be a good place to start, it helps to make it less overwhelming to see only one box instead of a big stack of them. One gal I worked with found some of the more precious childhood items and sent them to her kids as “gifts” for birthdays and Christmas and such. The kids thought it was really fun to receive some of the items they had such great memories attached to as gifts. 😉

  • Become Organized

I have the hardest time with lists, finding the best one to keep me organized.

  • TracyKPierce

There are a LOT of great options, aren’t there? For my to-do list I use Google Tasks because it’s on my computer, but I can also access it on my phone. I may make notes to myself on sticky notes or on my white board during the day if my computer or phone isn’t handy, but I always get them rounded up together on Google Tasks by the end of the day. That’s what works for me. If you’ve found a great resource you really like, let us know!

  • That certainly would be a great plan but – none of her stuff is packed. I’m leaving that for her to do, LOL. On the other hand, the Christmas idea is one I will definitely use on my eldest. She has one box left, children’s books. Her daughter is almost a year, so it’s a good fit.

In order for me to be more organized, I need a steady block of time, more storage containers and some help to decide what not to keep!

  • TracyKPierce

Blocking out the time definitely makes it easier!
