The business of professional organizing can be a bit like a roller coaster – sometimes you have tons of work, sometimes you have none. Wherever you happen to fall, take advantage of it. Make the money when you can, enjoy the downtime and rest when you can is my motto.

I am coming to the end of what has been a particularly busy season of working with clients. What I’ve begun to realize these past few weeks is that I’ve let my own schedule get a little too busy for comfort. Once I realized this, I decided to schedule myself some down time from client work and posting on this blog. I am devoting the last couple weeks or so of December to my own Self Care, Reflection, and Planning.

December has typically been a slow month for me in the past, but not this year. It would have been easy for me to schedule in a few more things here, a few more things there, make a few more people happy (because my inner people-pleaser thinks she needs to), but not really feeling good myself. But to me there’s something about the rhythm of the winter months that makes me need to slow down and take some evaluation and reflection time. Our society is always wanting us to push ahead faster, faster, faster, and I just can’t do it anymore. I feel the need to slow down and stop moving so much. Being still, listening to inner wisdom, and thinking about the future is seeming exactly right to me right now.

I often hear people comment, “I don’t know how you can do that job all the time!” And the truth is, the only reason I’m able to do it is because I take breaks from it – sometimes weeks-at-a-time breaks from it. Because there is a lot of heaviness to stuff, even if it’s not my own stuff. And to be in the energy of it can be draining, especially if you’ve been doing it many, many hours per weeks for the last several months – sometimes forgetting to schedule a day off for just doing NOTHING because being an entrepreneur means loving your work, and for me at least at this point in my journey, getting caught up in it because of that love of it. I know part of my planning for next year will include managing my own energy better in my work with others, especially in others’ homes.

I’ve written in the past about my annual reviews, so you can catch up on the how-to’s of doing an annual review here. Otherwise, I’ll be on sabbatical from this blog for at least a couple weeks. I’ll be posting up some oldies but goodies related to getting organized for the holidays. See you in a few weeks!
